AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30)

Engineered for Superior Performance and Racing Engines

AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30)

AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30) is a conventional mineral based oil. AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30) oil has been formulated with no friction modifiers. This allows for fast and efficient piston ring seating in the new and restored high performance and racing engines. It includes zinc and phosphorus anti wear additives to safeguard cam lobes, lifters, and rockers throughout the critical break in period. That is when the wear rates are greatest. At the same time its improved film strength is protecting the rod and main bearings from damage. AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30) has been designed to enhance compression, horsepower, and torque. Maximizing motor performance.

AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30) Quickly Seats Rings.

The main objective during engine break in is to seat the rings against the cylinder wall. Correctly seated rings boost compression. This will result in maximum horsepower.  They will also cut down on oil consumption and avoid the hot combustion gases from entering the crankcase. To accomplish this, however, the oil must allow the correct level of controlled wear.  This takes place between the cylinder wall/ring interface while at the same time maintaining wear protection on other important engine parts. Inadequate break in leaves behind peaks on the cylinder wall that avoid the rings from seating. The greater valleys, in the meantime, permit extra oil to gather and burn during the combustion process. In the end increasing oil consumption. Excessive amount of wear results in cylinder glazing because of peaks rolling over into the valleys. Once Again, blocking oil from collecting and properly oiling the cylinder wall. AMSOIL Break in Oil (SAE 30) friction modifier free formula enables the razor sharp peaks on freshly honed cylinder walls to somewhat flatten. The outcome produces a greater surface area for rings to seat against, thus enabling the development of a dynamic seal that boosts compression, horsepower, and torque.

Improved Film Strength

High performing and racing engines frequently use aftermarket parts that are intended to increase torque and horsepower. The additional stress can break the oil film held accountable for stopping the damaging metal to metal contact on rod as well as the main bearings. The base oils in AMSOIL Break in Oil (SAE 30) provide increased film strength to protect bearings from wear.

Applications

AMSOIL Break in Oil (SAE 30) is specifically designed to successfully break in high performance and racing engines that would require SAE 30 oil. This will help to maximize compression, horsepower, and torque.

Helps Protect Critical Parts from Wear

New flat tappet camshafts and lifters are not seasoned or broken in and must be heat cycled to accomplish the proper hardness. For The Duration Of the break in period, these components are vulnerable to accelerated wear since they are splash lubricated, unlike other areas of the engine that are pressure lubricated. AMSOIL Break In Oil (SAE 30) contains high levels of zinc (2040 ppm) and phosphorous (2265 ppm) (ZDDP) These additives are designed to provide the anti-wear protection which is necessary during this crucial period.

Recommendations

It is best to follow your engine builders’ recommendations for the engine or what the create engine requires. The engine builder’s or manufacturer’s break-in recommendations must be followed if it is available. If not offered, break in period should not exceed 1,000 miles or 1,600 km. When the engine is fresh, the exhaust ports will have a larger area of oil deposit (Fig. 1). As the piston rings begin to seat, less oil is passed.  The oil deposit area will begin to shrink (Fig. 2). No oil residue will be evident when the rings are completely seated and have established a tight seal against the cylinder walls. Other common approaches to determine whether the rings have seated consist of performing a leak-down test or horsepower measurements over time. Break in time span will differ depending on the engines. Afterward, drain and fill the engine with an AMSOIL high performance synthetic oil which meets the builder or manufacturer specifications.
